She attended Sutton Public School and graduated in 1948. She was employed with the Lincoln Telephone Company in Sutton, NE as a secretary. She married Robert Sterkel on December 31, 1960, and they made their home on a farm south of Sutton. To this union, three sons were born: David, Mark, and Glenn. Lucyle was a homemaker and worked part-time and eventually full-time for KN Energy Gas Company before retiring in 1992. Lucyle loved to sew, garden and refinish furniture. She also enjoyed fishing trips with her family and morning walks with her friends. She cherished anytime she could spend with her grandkids and great-grandchildren with who she shared her love of ice cream. She was a member of Sutton Federated Church, Garden Club, Sutton Historical Society, Sutton Cemetery Board, and the American Legion Auxiliary for 67 years. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering her time at Sutton Public Schools. Lucyle is survived by her children, David (Lynn) of Sutton, NE; Mark of Denver, CO; Glenn (Marci) of South Elgin, IL; four grandchildren, Katie Griess (Ryan); Evan Sterkel (Kellie); Matthew and Christopher Sterkel; Annie, Emily, and Logan Sterkel; five great-grandchildren, Addialynn, Brileigh, Cadeson, and Deakin Sterkel; Kinsley Griess; sisters-in-law, Dorthy Scheidemann and Janet Scheidemann and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; sisters, Edna Walker and Emma Krieger; brothers, Herman, Leon, and Robert Scheidemann; brothers-in-law, Ed Walker and C.R. Krieger; and sister-in-law, Doris Scheidemann.
