Read More	Clay County News (Sutton, NE), Thursday, November 22, 2008 SUTTON - Sutton resident, Robert "Bob" Henry Sterkel, 85, died Monday, Nov 10, 2008 at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton. Funeral services were Friday, Nov 14 at Sutton Memorial Chapel with Rev Martha Nordt officiating. Burial was to be in the Sutton Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post #61 Sutton. Bob was born May 9, 1923 to Henry and Katie (Scheierman) Sterkel in rural Edgar, the youngest of five children. He attended Lakeside District #65 school through the 8th grade. He helped his father on the farm and with the encouragement of his father, attended Lincoln Aeronautical Institute in Lincoln, where he trained to become an aviation mechanic. He was employed with several airlines and spent some time in Scotland working as an aviation mechanic for the Army. While there, he received his notice from the Draft Board. Bob returned home, joined the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii. After the war, he worked for several airlines; Pan American, United and Alaska Air. On Dec 31, 1960, he married Lucyle Scheidemann and to this union three sons were born. After his parents retired from farming, he moved back to the Edgar area to farm. He was also employed with Traudt Irrigation in Sutton and R & K Irrigation in Harvard, moving and building pivots. Bob and Lucyle retired from farming and moved to Sutton in December of 1986. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in the garden and yard and Nebraska football. He was a member and past Commander of the Sutton American Legion Post #61, 40/8 and a member of Way Of Grace Fellowship. Bob is survived by is wife Lucyle of Sutton; sons and daughters-in-law David and Lynn Sterkel of Edgar; Mark and Lori Sterkel of Aurora, Colo.; Glenn and Marci Sterkel of South Elgin, Ill.; grandchildren, Katie and husband Christopher Pierce of Kearney; Evan Sterkel of Edgar; Matthew Sterkel of Aurora, Colo; Christopher Sterkel of Loveland Colo.; Annie, Emily and Logan Sterkel all of South Elgin, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Vesta Gerdes, Lorine Knudson, Clarretta Garrison and Viola Swanson
