Description	:	Ludwig Gerhard Remmers was born September 26, 1868 at Werrun Osfriesland, Germany and died at his late home at Melvin, Ia., Tuesday evening, February 27, 1945 at the age of 76 years, 5 months 1 day. In the year 1884 he came to America with his two brothers, George and Adolph and made their home in McLain County, Ill., In 1887 he came to Ashton, Ia. The town of Melvin was not then organized. He worked for several years on various farms until he purchased the farm 3 miles west and 1/2 mile north of the present town... Read More	Ludwig Gerhard Remmers was born September 26, 1868 at Werrun Osfriesland, Germany and died at his late home at Melvin, Ia., Tuesday evening, February 27, 1945 at the age of 76 years, 5 months 1 day. In the year 1884 he came to America with his two brothers, George and Adolph and made their home in McLain County, Ill., In 1887 he came to Ashton, Ia. The town of Melvin was not then organized. He worked for several years on various farms until he purchased the farm 3 miles west and 1/2 mile north of the present town or Melvin. He has resided on this farm 5 years. On December 17th 1899 he was united in marriage to Grace Alinger. To this union was born 11 children. Lena Kaiser, Detroit, Mich ; Cora Vauters of Lincoln, Neb.; Viola Grose, Mason City, Ia , Evelyn Parks, Los Angeles, Calif.; Esther Machamer, Whittier, Calif.; Arlouiene Betts, Harriman, Tenn.; Wilbur of Harris, Ia.; Rene, Floyd and Emery of Melvin and Victor at home. There are 18 grandchildren He is also survived by two brothers and one sister; George of Melvin, Adolph of Naples, S Dak., and Mrs. Adolph Knock of Melvin, Ia. He was baptized in infancy and was confirmed in the Lutheran church He had many good friends, who will miss him. He was always too concerned over his own affairs to make trouble for anyone else. He was always willing to help any good cause. Services were held Friday, March 2, 1945 at 1 p. m., from the Methodist Church of Melvin by the pastor, Rev. Belden Wiekel.
