Preceded in death by: a sister, two brothers, a sister-in-law, and two brothers-in-law. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Oratory, rural Clutier, with burial in the church cemetery. There will be a 4 p.m. rosary on Tuesday at Kruse-Phillips Clutier Chapel, followed by visitation and a 7 p.m. Scripture service. Memorial fund: has been established. Ludwig Joe Kriz was born on May 25,1922 on the family farm, 3 miles west of Clutier, Iowa, as the second child of Josef Frank Kriz and Christina A. Kadrmas. He had eight siblings: one unnamed infant brother, Joseph, Pauline, Melvin, Alfred, Evelyn, Frank, and Martha. Lud attended country school in Carroll Township. Ludwig served in US Army during World War II from Aug 11 to Dec 23, 1946, as a corporal in Germany. After the military, Ludwig returned to farming with his family. After his father died n 1953, Lud and his brother Alfred farmed the family farm. Lud retired from farming in 1997. He loved to garden and raise chickens. His passion was his nieces and nephews and a favorite pass-time was playing pepper. Lud was a member of St Wenceslaus Catholic Church and the KD Lodge. He was a member of the Clutier American Legion Auxiliary Legion Post #453 for 62 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2828. Ludwig served on the St Vaclav’s Cemetery Board for forty years. After a brief illness, Lud died on July 8, 2007, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. A funeral liturgy was celebrated on July 11, 2007 at St Wenceslaus Catholic Church, with Father Jerry Blake officiating. Pall bearers were Alan Breja, Bill Carlson, Jeff Kriz, Jimmy Kriz, Bruce Kriz, and Alan Wolf. He was laid to rest in St Vaclav Cemetery near Clutier, Iowa on July 11, 2007.
