Read More	WAS RESIDENT HERE 57 YEARS VILLISCA PIONEER, WHO CAME HERE AS A BRIDE IN 1870, DIES-FUNERAL HELD FRIDAY AFTERNOON Mrs. Emory Clough, who came to Villisca as a bride to make her home more than 57 years ago, died Thursday morning at 11:30 o’clock at the home of her brother, Eugene Brown on East Fourth Street, her death resulting form gall bladder infection. She lacked but a few days of being 81 years old. Mrs. Clough, whose maiden name was Luella M. Brown, was born in Ludlow, Vermont, on August 18, 1847. She was married to Emory Clough in Afton, Iowa, on November 14, 1870, and they came immediately afterward to Villisca to make their home. Here both spent the remainder of their lives, with the exception of one year spent in Lincoln, Nebraska and a couple years in Council Bluffs. Mr. Clough preceded his wife in death on October 21, 1921. Villisca’s first meat market was opened and operated by Mrs. Clough’s husband, and he conducted also a grocery store on lower Third Avenue during this early residence here. Soon after coming to Villisca, Mr. and Mrs. Clough purchased the residence on With Street where they lived together until the former’s death, Mrs. Clough continued to reside there until recent months during which time she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Kelley and her brother, Eugene Brown. Besides her daughter and her brother in Villisca, Mrs. Clough, lives also a brother, William Brown of Kansas City, Missouri, a grandson, Harry Kelley, and a great granddaughter, Helen Marie Kelley of Lincoln, Nebraska. Mrs. Clough has been a member of the Methodist Church since she was a young girl. Her funeral was held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Eugene Brown home, with Rev. L. B. Carpenter in charge of the service. The singing was by W. J. Eggleston and Mrs. C. A. Penwell, and the pall bearers were Harry Kelley, Arthur Brown, Wirt Barnes, J. L. Himiller, W. J. Eggleston, and Ed Benson. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery beside the husband of the deceased.
