At the age of seven she moved to Scott township and later to Oelwein. She attended rural school in Scott Township and Oelwein High School. (Obit in the Oelwein Daily Register, Wednesday, January 19, 1972, page 6) * * * Lula Rathbun was a lifelong resident of Oelwein community. As a child she had attended Centary Methodist Church northeast of Oelwein. She attended rural schools, and in her early years she took an interest in elocution. For many years she worked in the jewelry store with her two brothers, Dr. Louis Rathbun and Frank C. Rathbun. Her brother, Frank, lived with her at her home at 320 Second Avenue Northeast for thirty years. She was very devoted to both her brothers.There was also one sister, Mrs. Etta Stebbins, who passed away thirty-seven years ago. Miss Rathbun was a member of the Oelwein Chapter No. 45 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and had served in various capacities through the years. In the past few years she had been in failing health and was hospitalized both at Rochester and Allen Memorial in Waterloo. Then four weeks ago she became a patient at Mercy hospital in Oelwein, where she died.She is survived by her brother Dr. Louis Rathbun, a nephew Robert Rathbun, and various cousins.
