December 12, 1840, and died at his home Wednesday morning, March 3, 1920, the last member of a family of twelve children. RATHBUN IN MEMORIUM Born in DeWitt County, Illinois, on December 12, 1840. Died in Oelwein, March 3, 1920. Robert H. P. Rathbun was born in DeWitt county, Ill. December 12, 1840, and died at his home Wednesday morning, March 3, 1920, the last member of a family of twelve children. When he was twelve years of age the family moved to Lodi, Columbia Co., Wis., where they were engaged in farming. In 1882 he was married to Mariette Ashly, who preceded him to the better world on April 12, 1919. To them were born four children; Mrs. E. J. Stebbins, Frank C., Louis C. and Lulu A., all living in Oelwein and were present to help during his illness. He is also survived by one grandchild, Robert. In 1874 he moved to Smithfield township, Fayette county, where he was engaged in farming, later buying a farm in Scott township, to which he moved. In 1880 he rented his farm and moved to Adair county, Iowa, where he was engaged in stock raising in partnership with his brother-in-law F.D. Arnold, now of Hoquiam, Wash. After nine years he returned to his Fayette county farm, added some improvements and remained there until the fall of 1902, when he rented the farm and moved to Oelwein where he has since lived. About the year 1885 he became a member of the K. of P. lodge of Adair and on his return to Scott township became a member of Pahdahnee Lodge No. 194 at Oelwein. He was a man of splendid personal qualification and enjoyed a large acquaintance among whom he numbered many warm and loyal friends. The last services were held at the home Friday, March 5, at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Christian Science Society of Oelwein. Six Brother Knights acted as pallbearers and he was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.
