She married William Brown Taylor on November 22, 1905 in Yates Center, Woodson County, Kansas. They had three daughters, Gracie, Hazel, and Belle. Gracie and Belle died as infants. Lula Bell was well known around Greenwood and Woodson counties as a mid-wife and as an assistant to the traveling doctors of the area. Read More	*************************** Lula Bell (Key) Taylor was the daughter of Walter John and Clara Belle (Landes) Key. She married William Brown Taylor on November 22, 1905 in Yates Center, Woodson County, Kansas. They had three daughters, Gracie, Hazel, and Belle. Gracie and Belle died as infants. Lula Bell was well known around Greenwood and Woodson counties as a mid-wife and as an assistant to the traveling doctors of the area. She was especially unselfish with her time and would risk her own health to care for whole families when various epidemics swept the country, such as the measles and influenza, toronados, etc. She was always willing to "take in" unwed mothers and wounded and sick animals. She never had a harsh word to say about anyone, and always had a little money hidden away "in her sock" to help out families having hard times, especially during the Depression. Though her husband was a successful railroad man, Lula Bell preferred the simple country life. Once Will retired, they liked nothing better than to go fishing at Fall River Reservoir, and having big Sunday dinners for all of the family living close enough to come. Lula was an accomplished horsewoman, both side-saddle and bareback, and the first woman in her county to drive an automobile. Taylor Lula Belle Taylor was born September 14, 1889 to Walter and Clara Belle Landis Key, in Greenwood County. She passed away at the home of her daughter in Eureka on August 29, 1974 at the age of 84 years. She was married to William Taylor on November 22, 1905 at Yates Center. They moved to Yates Center in 1920 and made their home there until Mr. Taylor retired from the railroad, then they moved to Climax. He passed away October 9, 1965. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Climax. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Hazel McKinney, of Eureka, one grandchild, four great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Key, of Eureka, two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Bonnette of Severy and Mrs. Ruby Higbee of Eureka; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, two brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services were held September 1 at the First United Methodist Church, Eureka, with the Rev. Wendell Johnson officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. - co-written by minister and family ***************************
