Barker was born at Rocky Ford, Col., the daughter of Albert F. and Charity A. Enyart. She came as a child with her parents to Johnson county, Nebraska. The family later lived at Douglas, Neb., where she grew up and where she was married in 1895 to Mahlon E. Barker. In 1911 Mr. and Mrs. Barker came to Geneva, where they lived ever since. Mrs. Barker is survived by her husband and three children, Earl A. Barker of Durango, Col., Mrs. Hugh Heath of Geneva, and Mrs. Stephen Cummings of Omaha, and by one sister, Mrs. H. C. Armstrong of Anderson, Ind. A son, Carl Elbert, died in 1917 at eleven years of age. There are five grandchildren to whom she was greatly devoted, Harlan, Dean, and Marilyn Heath of Geneva, and Marjorie and Earl A. Barker Jr. of Durango, Col. Mrs. Barker became a member of the Christian church at Charter Oak, Neb. at the age of seventeen. She was later a member of the Christian church at Douglas and also at Geneva. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Methodist church here, and was active in the woman's society, being a leader of one of the circles. Mrs. Barker was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, of the Geneva Woman's club, and the Rebekah lodge. She was a generous, public spirited woman, and friend of every good cause. She was a devoted wife and mother, a devout and earnest Christian, and a woman of good works. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church at 2:30 p. m. Friday by Rev. P. B. Cope of Lincoln, assisted by Rev. H. C. Armstrong, pastor of Central Christian church of Anderson, Ind., and Rev. Orville Cox, pastor of the Friends church of Marshalltown, Ia. Mr. Cox is a nephew of Mr. Barker. Two hymns, "Lead Kindly Light" and "Sometime We'll Understand," were sung by Mrs. A. H. Elder and Mrs. H. A. Rosenau, with Mrs. W. B. Pardun at the organ. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. (The Signal July 30, 1942)
