Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Yankton with Reverend Ron Johnson and Bob Cappel, Pastoral Assistant officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Pallbearers are Mae's nephews: Clifford Hrdlicka Jr., Gary Hrdlicka, Jeff Branaugh, Greg Branaugh, Mark Branaugh, and Pat Branaugh. Lula Mae Cressy was born March 12, 1923, in Charles Mix County, South Dakota to Edward and Fay (Lanning) Branaugh. She attended country school at Kennedy No. 1 in Charles Mix County. On February 15, 1941, Mae married Vernon Cressy in Hartington, Nebraska. After their marriage, they lived in Yankton where Mae kept very busy raising her three boys while her husband served in World War II. As her boys grew older, Mae started working for Johnson's Bakery. She worked there for several years before becoming employed at Cottonwood Package Company where she made fillers for egg cases. Then she worked for almost 30 years as an assembler for Dale Electronics until she retired in 1990. Mae was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Yankton Senior Citizens Center and First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling to spend time with her family in California and decorating cakes. Mae also enjoyed reading, caring for her dog, Penny, and making sure the neighborhood stray cats were well fed during the winter. Above all, Mae loved her family. She was the bond that made the family complete. She dearly loved cooking for large family gatherings at her kitchen table during special occasions and holiday meals. One of her recent and more cherished traditions was having family gather around on Sunday evenings for popcorn, root beer floats, and family time. Her smile never beamed as brightly as when she held babies. The love that flowed from her to her family was a feeling of special contentment and wonder. She will be deeply missed by all. Mae is survived by one son, James (Marta) Cressy of Yankton; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Mary Ann Cressy of California and Sharon Hladky of Yankton; one sister, Gladys Hrdlicka of Armour, SD; five brothers: Fred Branaugh of Yankton, Charles Branaugh of Yankton, Billy (Betty) Branaugh of California, Robert Branaugh of California and Tommy (Carol) Branaugh of Kentucky; Betty Herrboldt of Yankton and many other nieces and nephews. Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon on April 8, 1989; two sons, Ronald and Daniel Cressy; brother, James Branaugh; and an infant sister, Frances.
