Dena was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Kremlin, Mont., the daughter of Fredrick and Rosina (Hausauer) Schlichenmeyer. The family moved to South Dakota, where she graduated from Eureka High School. She moved to Portland Oregon, and worked various jobs, until she married Edward Kuch from McClusky on Feb. 7, 1947. They farmed south of McClusky, until Ed's death on Feb. 22, 1967. She then moved her family to Bismarck and went to work for Penney's in the fabric department, because she enjoyed sewing and quilting. She left there to pursue her other passions which was cooking at the Baptist Home, Mary College and later at the East 40 and the Elks. For several years, when her oldest grandchild was young, she became a licensed day-care provider to spend time with him and all the other children who affectionately called her Gramma. She retired in the '80s to spend all her time with her grandson. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Evie (Tom) Williams and Rosie Zoeller, all of Bismarck; two grand children, David Williams, Reed City, Mich., and Scott Williams, Grand Forks; and two great-grandsons, Connor and Spencer Williams, Reed City. She was preceded in death by husband; parents; brother, Raymond; and infant sister, Esther. Source: Bismarck Tribune
