Exact date unknown Funeral services for Mrs R A Squires, who died on February 1, 1940, were held in the Methodist Church in Coldwater on Saturday afternoon, February 3, at 2:30 o'clock. The services were in charge of Rev Geo II DeBoer of the Presbyterian church , assisted by Rev Wm E Callahan of the Methodist church. During the entire service until soft music was played by Mrs Wm Brumbaugh, the church organist. The pall bearers were Roy and George Deewall, Ernest Oller, Clyde Blount, Robert Coles, and Alvah York. Burial was in the Crown Hill cemetery. The following life sketch of the deceased was read during the service. Lura May, daughter of Wiley Edward and Sara Elvira Welch, was born near New Boston, ILL, on August 13, 1876. She moved with her parents as a child to Harvey county, Kans, where she grew to young womanhood. In the year 1894, the family moved to Lyon county, where they resided two years, then moved to Harper county, Kans, in 1896. On November 1, 1900 she was united in marriage with Richard Austin Squires of Attica. To this union five children were born. In the spring of 1917 the Squires family moved to Woods County , Okla, and in 1925 Mrs Squires with her family came to Comanche County, where she had continuously resided until her death on February 1, 1940, at the age of 63 years, 6 months and 12 days. In 1913 she joined the United Brethren Church in Attica, and in 1933 she transferred her membership to the Methodist church at Antioch in this county, where she was a faithful member and attended as long as her health permitted. She was loved by all who knew her, and came to her with their troubles. Mrs Squires had been in failing health for the past two years, and suffered much during the past few months. A few days before her death she spoke of not being able to walk again on this earth, but that she would "walk all over Heaven" when she arrived. She leaves to mourn their loss her faithful husband, two sons, Ray and Glenn; three daughters, Nellie Friend, Eunice Hoffman, and Calla; also seven grandchildren, all of Comanche county. She is also survived by one sister, four brothers and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and one sister. "Someone cares, dear Mother" he name in the obit is consistantly Squires.
