Zimmerman, 92, of rural McCune passed away at 2:55 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2014 in the Girard Medical Center, Girard, Kansas. Luther was born July 12, 1922 in rural McCune, Kansas a son of Samuel and Emma (Amos) Zimmerman. He grew up in the McCune area and attended McCune Schools, graduating from McCune High School. After graduation Luther entered the U.S. Army in December of 1944. Luther served his country in the European Theater and Pacific Theater during World War II and was awarded several accommodations. On June 19, 1949, Luther was united in marriage to Dorothy McGown in the United Chapel Church in rural McCune; she preceded him in death on March 17, 2008. Luther devoted his life to his family, farming and more especially to serving the Lord. Luther was a member of the United Chapel Church and served as church treasure, Sunday school teacher and served on the Church Board. Luther is survived by his son, Steve Zimmerman and his wife Ruth, of rural McCune; three daughters, Jeanne Dent and her husband Henry, of Carrollton, Georgia; Susan Cheney and her husband Nick, of Girard, Kansas; Betty Anne Hall and her husband Mike, of Springfield, Missouri; one brother, Samual Ray Zimmerman, of Clinton, Iowa; 13 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren. Funeral services for Luther A. Zimmerman will be Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard. Burial will follow in the McCune cemetery with Military honors conducted by Brown-Bishop Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 704. Visitation will be Tuesday December 16 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard. Friends may call at the funeral Home after 1:30 p.m., Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to the United Chapel Church; these may be left at the Funeral Home or mailed to the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 West St. John, P.O. Box 258, Girard, Kansas 66743.
