Read More	Luther Moss, the son of Charles Moss and his wife Eliza, was born February 27, 1851, in Maryland, and passed away from the home of his daughter in Hastings, Nebr., May 19, 1944, having reached the age of 93 years, 2 months and 22 days. He was one of a family of thirteen children most of whom have preceded him in death. While still a small boy he came with his parents to Illinois. On October 14, 1880, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Vore, and they came to Nebraska in 1881, and located on a farm north of Nelson. In May, 1905, they moved to Angus, and this remained their home until his wife's death, which occurred on February 3, 1933; these two having had the blessed privilege of sojourning together 53 years here on earth. Since that time Mr. Moss has made his home with his children and due to ill health the last three years he has lived with a daughter at Hastings. To the union of Mr. and Mrs. Moss there were born five children Edward H. of Nelson, Nora Wright who passed away on May 23, 1931; Charles T. of Geneva; Mrs. Rosa Wright of Bird City, Kansas; and Mrs. Eliza Taylor of Hastings. There are two brothers, Columbus Moss of Batavia, Iowa, and Dawson Moss of Illinois. Besides the four living children he also leaves 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Mr. Moss became a member of the Methodist Church while living in Illinois. Another pioneer of this great State of Nebraska has been called to the Great Beyond. He along with many others has braved the hardships and privations of early pioneer life, but they also have had great joy as they have seen the building of churches, homes, schools, and many other of the finer things that are making life so worthwhile for the younger generations. May the mantle of their determination to win over great obstacles, such as they had to endure, and their bravery in times of storm and distress, fall upon us. We are pilgrims who travel A great common road, And the journey is easy for none. We must comfort the weary, And help on the load Of those pioneers whose courage seems done. Let us deal with them each, On our way to the west, With a mercy that never will fail; And lie down to our dreams with a conscience at rest When we come to the end of the trail. The funeral services were conducted at the Pleasant View United Brethren Church, north of Nelson, May 24, at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Clarence V. Powell, pastor of the Nelson Methodist Church had charge of the service, and he was assisted by Rev. D.H. Berger, pastor of the U.B. Church. Mrs. C.V. Powell read the obituary. Music was furnished by a quartette: Mrs. Arbor Ferebee, Mrs. Wayne Wroughton, Joe W. Ferebee and Roy E. Brookhart, with Mrs. Joe W. Ferebee at the piano. The pallbearers were: Frank M. Harris, Ralph Harritt, Ernest Wroughton, Herbert Ferebee, Otha Skinner and William Herrick. Burial was at Nelson. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, May 25, 1944; pg. 8
