He became ill Friday and an abdominal operation was performed Sunday morning for his relief but proved ineffective. He became ill Friday and an abdominal operation was performed Sunday morning for his relief but proved ineffective. There were few citizens of Lexington so well known as Mr. Miller and he numbered many friends. A native of this county, born in the Alone Mills neighborhood, Dec. 16, 1860, he became a resident of Lexington thirty years ago. For a short time he engaged in merchandizing but soon embarked in the transfer business which he conducted with much success. This was interrupted by illness and he sold the business to the Miller Transfer company which perpetuates his name. His energy was soon after thrown into the operation of automobile passenger traffic in the early days of the machine and as a public carrier his cars soon became almost indispensable to the community, serving citizens, students and cadets up to his final illness. Mr. Miller was the only son of Joseph Miller. His mother was Miss Dull of Augusta county. He married in 1889 Miss Adeline E. Heck, a daughter of Mr. Tilford B. Heck of Lexington, who survives him with three children: Miss Alice Estell Miller, Luther Rice Miller and Francis J. Miller. The funeral services take place at the home on Houston street this afternoon at 4 o'clock.
