Description	:	Luther Blades, Sr. One of the community's older residents, Mr. Luther Blades, Sr., died at the home of his son, Luther Blades, Jr., in Lawsonia, Thursday evening of last week. He had passed his 89th birthday. Mr. Blades suffered a paralytic stroke at his home in the Mariners section on the 6th of February, from which he failed to recover. Read More	Luther Blades, Sr. One of the community's older residents, Mr. Luther Blades, Sr., died at the home of his son, Luther Blades, Jr., in Lawsonia, Thursday evening of last week. He had passed his 89th birthday. Mr. Blades suffered a paralytic stroke at his home in the Mariners section on the 6th of February, from which he failed to recover. Born in Crisfield, he was the son of the late Seth Wilkens Blades and Emily Sterling Blades, and his wife was the late Elizabeth Benson Blades who died in 1940. All of his life was devoted to the sea and its industries. For a long time he followed the water, then he built boats for others to sail. He was an expert craftsman as well as a sea captain of wide reputation in his younger days. For some years he had been living quietly at his home on Mariners Road engaged in building and repairing boats and buildings as his health permitted. In his long life he had been a fine citizen, a stalwart upright man, with many qualities that made for him friends in all walks of life. He was held in deep regard and respect by his fellow citizens. He rested at the home of his son until Sunday afternoon when funeral services were held in Mariners Methodist Church at 3:15 o'clock, conducted by Rev. L. L. Knotts and Rev. Russell Coverdale. Interment was in the Crisfield cemetery. He is survived by three children, Caroline Blades of Salisbury, James Aldon Blades of Richmond, Va., and Luther Blades, Jr., of this city; one grandchild, Mrs. Imogene Blades Strong of Gastonia, N.C., and one great-grandchild.
