Fairfield Daily Journal Monday March 2, 1914 Pg. 2 Col. 1 SANFORD FUNERAL SATURDAY Lydia Latatia Graves was born in Loraine county, Ohio, Oct. 2d, 1837. She was married to Jasper Stanford, Oct. 1, 1863. Six children were born to this union one of whom died at the age of 17 years. Those living are as follows: Alma Armstrong in Atlanta, Ga., Ira Edmonds of Santiago, Calif., W. of Albion, Neb., Pearl Campbell of Batavia and Rose Cambell of South Dakota. Mrs. Stanford was converted at the age of thirteen years and has been a consistent Christian since that date, trusting God sixteen years of afflication with rheumantism. She patiently endured her sufferings with happy anticipation of rest with her Savior. She died at Libertyville on February 27th. The funeral services were held in the Free Methodist church here Saturday afternoon, being conducted by H. S. Carpenter assisted by the pastor Rev. John Watterson, and Rev. M. L. Mendenhall. The remains were laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery. ------ Together they raised six children: Note: names and dates for some of these children vary with family group sheets compiled in 1995, sometimes in conflict with the headstone photos found on their memorials. Family researchers should be aware of these issues and use the following with some caution. >Alma Rhoe Stanford (a/k/a Alma Roe Stanford Armstrong, wife of Albert Armstrong). Reportedly, but needs verification, married on September 30, 1882. >Francis W. Stanford (listed as Frances Wesley Stanford in one family group sheet). Memorial is found at: Francis W Stanford. The inscription appears to verify the DOD as Nov. 17, 1882, with age at death being 16y 9m 12d. That works out to an estimated DOB of Feb. 5, 1866, but at least one source has it as being January 30, 1866. No Iowa birth records were kept until mid-1880 so there are no birth records to consult for verification of the exact birth date. >George Wilbur Stanford, reportedly born about Feb. 18, 1868 in Batavia, Jefferson county, Iowa. Reportedly died June 24, 1949 at Primrose, NE. Reportedly married to a Mette Nielson on Feb. 18, 1896 in Valley, NE. Clarification/verification of this would be appreciated. Where buried ?? >Ira Edmund Stanford, reportedly born June 9, 1870 in Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa (no birth records to confirm, however). Reportedly died March 17, 1951 at San Diego, CA. Burial and marriage information needs clarification/verification. >Pearl Olive Stanford (see: Pearl Olive Stanford Campbell), > Rosa Belle Stanford Caldwell (see: Rosa Belle Stanford Caldwell. DOB listed as Aug. 21, 1877 in Dodge county, NE. in one family group sheet, and DOD as being August 13, 1941 at Aberdeen, S. Dakota. Name of husband varies - see his memorial for detail: Ola Madison Caldwell. ------ The unmarked graves for Joel and Lydia Stanford are just on the other side (North side) of the Stanford family monument in the Stanford burial plot.
