Tutt, prominent business man and well known resident of La Porte City died suddenly at Presbyterian hospital Saturday night at 12 o’clock from coronary thrombosis following a major operation Friday morning. He was 69 years old. Lyle John Tutt was born the son of John and Mary Jane Tutt Feb. 24, 1879 at Farley, Iowa and grew to manhood there. He attended business college at Dixon, Ill. and Highland Park college at Des Moines before coming to La Porte City in 1909. In Business Here Here he was engaged in the real estate business for several years and for 25 years he was the proprietor of the Home Oil Company. Since last spring he had devoted his time to the Bailey Tutt Construction Co interests. On January 11, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Thersa Longaker in La Porte City and they established a home on Locust St where he lived until his death. Surviving are his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Cecil Hodges, Wilmington, Calif. one granddaughter, Karen Kae Hodges of Wilmington and one brother, Ansel Tutt of Perry, Iowa. His parents, one sister and three brothers preceded him in death. Active in Community He was a member of the Methodist church and had served on the official board for a number of years, a member of the Knights of Pythias and I.O.O.F. lodges, a charter member of the Golf club, which he helped promote, a charter member of the Lions club, a director of the La Porte City State bank and a former member of the city council and was always interested in civic activities. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. Oliver Jensen in charge. Clifford Burr, accompanied by Mrs. Burr sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Serving as casket bearers were Dr. L.F. Bailey, Weldon Betts, Arden Melcher, L.C. McGill, Keith Kline and Elmer Rasche. Business places were closed during the services and members of the Knights of Pythias lodge and I.O.O.F. lodge attended in a body. Interment was made in West View cemetery. Relatives from out of town who came for the funeral were Mrs. Mary Belzer, Cando, S. Dak., Mrs. Richard LeMont, Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Tutt, Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Longaker and sons, Wayne and Lyle, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Kniss and Mrs. Ed Bradfield of Waterloo.
