Born Here Mrs. Tutt had lived here all of her life except the past two years. She as born in Spring Creek township Feb. 15, 1879, to Abraham and Fannie Plants Longaker and moved to La Porte City with her parents at the age of nine years. She graduated from the La Porte City high school in 1896. Before her marriage she worked for many years as a milliner and at one time was co-owner of a millinery shop here. She also clerked in the former Wagner Dry Goods store, worked in a tailor shop and as a telephone operator. On Jan. 16, 1912, she was married to L.J. Tutt at La Porte City. After his death, April 24, 1948, she spent her winters in California in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cecil Hodges. Two years ago she sold her property here and moved to Long Beach, but returned to spend last summer in La Porte City with her sisters. She was a longtime member of the Methodist church and had belonged to the Pythian Sister lodge and the Tourist Club for many years. She was active in all branches of the church work and in civic, lodge and club work as long as her health permitted. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Cecil Hodges (Marian) and three granddaughters, Long Beach and three sisters, Mrs. Maude Kline, Mrs. Mabel Bales and Mrs. Fred Taylor, La Porte City. Her parents, six sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
