Born March 2, 1938, in Ida Grove, Iowa, Lyle Loren Pfleeger was the son of Earl and Arvilla (Hein) Pfleeger. He attended school in Ida Grove as a young boy and worked as a paperboy, a farmhand, and at the local DX gas station. He graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1956. He joined the Army directly after graduation, where he trained as a power lineman and served a three-year tour of duty. Lyle married Gwen Petersen on August 9, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The couple was blessed with three children, Steve, Rita, and Patty. After his service in the military, Lyle worked for Western Electric in Omaha, Nebraska, for one year before returning to Ida Grove where he worked with his father in Earl's Auto Shop. He was then employed by Ida County REC, first as a power lineman and later as foreman. He retired in 2000 after 37 years of service. Lyle was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. He loved playing pool, cards, reading, fishing, woodworking, and walking the trail. Survivors include his wife, Gwen and three children, Steve (Jennifer) Pfleeger of Littleton, CO, Rita Bettin of LeMars, and Patty (Jayson) Lansink of Ida Grove. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Eldon (Ellen) Pfleeger of Ida Grove, Roger (Karen) Pfleeger of Hinton, and Richard (Connie) Pfleeger of Ida Grove; a sister-in-law, Barb Pfleeger of Arthur; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary Pfleeger.
