Description	:	Lyman's mother was living with her husband's family in New York state when he was born. His father was fighting with the Union army in the Civil War. He spent his boyhood in Stockbridge, WI, moving with his family to South Dakota when he was 17. Lyman homesteaded 160 acres of land 2 1/2 miles north east of Hetland when he was 22. He built a small house on the land, and when he married, he brought his bride to this "bachelor house". Their first three children were born here, then he built a two story... Read More	Lyman's mother was living with her husband's family in New York state when he was born. His father was fighting with the Union army in the Civil War. He spent his boyhood in Stockbridge, WI, moving with his family to South Dakota when he was 17. Lyman homesteaded 160 acres of land 2 1/2 miles north east of Hetland when he was 22. He built a small house on the land, and when he married, he brought his bride to this "bachelor house". Their first three children were born here, then he built a two story house on the farm. In addition to farming, Lyman bought livestock and took them by rail to Chicago to sell. He liked horses and raised his own so he could have a fast horse to pull his buggy. Lyman served as a school board member of District #44 from 1892 to 1902, 1909 to 1913, and from 1919 to 1924. Lyman and Ada moved into Hetland in 1926 to a house north of the school--the third from the end of the street. He became the Secretary for the Denver Mutual Fire Insurance Co and served on the election board for Hetland. He was a member of the Hetland Congregational Church. Lyman died at his home in Hetland. His funeral was held with his mother's, who died a day earlier in California. Services were in the Hetland Congregational Church and burial was in the Hetland cemetery.
