Church for Lynn Brayton Lynn Elbert Brayton was born of Daniel and Merzilla Brayton at Ashkum, Illinois, April 8, 1899, removing shortly thereafter to Sommers, Iowa, where he grew to young manhood on his father's farm. His early education was obtained in the public and high schools of Sommers and Fort Dodge, Iowa. He came to Hunter, North Dakota in the spring of 1918, following the close of his school year, to join his parents who had begun farming in Greenfield township the fall previous. Here he attended Hunter High school and assisted his parents on the home farm. He later began farming for himself, upon completing his high school education and was engaged in that occupation up to September of this year when the state of his health made it imperative that he remove himself and family from the farm to the village of Hunter. Lynn Brayton was united in marriage to Stella See of Arthur, North Dakota, March 24, 1921. To this happy union were born six children, Lois, Robert, Daniel, Dale, Donald and John. Daniel, the second son, preceded his father in death at the age of two years. As a boy and young man, Lynn Brayton was taught the principles of Christian living, and as a young man was a faithful church and Sunday school attendant. During his short span of years here, he patterned his adult life by the Golden Rule, and in word thought and deed lived as a good neighbor, a steady and ever helpful friend to those who knew and worked with him. As a parent he was most loving and considerate of his children and their mother. He will be most missed within his immediate family circle for the part that he took in shaping his family's outlook on life and consideration for their responsibilities to themselves, their community and their Creator. To his parents, he was ever a thoughtful, obedient and upright son. To his brother and sisters who survive him he was indeed "a real brother" in every sense of the word. Never physically rugged, Lynn did not take a leading part in community affairs, rather confining his outside activities to serving as township treasurer and helping his neighbors when and where his individual services would best serve community betterment as a following of good leadership. His death occurred at St. John's Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota, October 1, 1937, at the age of 38 years, five months and 22 days, after a lingering illness occasioned by an ailing heart condition. He was cheerful and optimistic at all times during his illness, and near the end when he knew his summons had come to join "little Danny" in "that house not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens," he slept away from his loved ones who survive him secure in the belief that he, too, would hear those welcome words "Well done, Thou good and faithful servant, enter now into the Joy of Thy Lord" from the all-wise Father above who directs our journey to that undiscovered country, from whose bourne no traveler ever returned. Besides his widow and surviving children, he leaves to mourn his demise his parents and brother Paul of Hunter, North Dakota, three sisters; Mrs. Melvin Holt of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Mrs. Arthur Bergquist, Fargo, North Dakota, and Mrs. H. W. Herbison of Minnewaukan, North Dakota, and a host of friends and neighbors in the Hunter community who have learned to know and love him. Tho gone from us for a little while, Lynnâ's personality, his thoughtful consideration of others, and the example he set thru living as a good neighbor will live after him in the hearts which are now heavy today in the Hunter community because Lynn has gone away. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Gunter, pastor, officiating. A quartet, consisting of Mrs. E. I. Moen, Miss Cassendena Stafford, and Messrs. K. Brandhagen and Merland Carr sang the following hymns: One Sweetly Solemn Thought, The Old Rugged Cross, and Abide With Me. Pallbearers were: Harry Rasmussen, Floyd Quaife, Robert Kennedy, W. L. Moen, T. W. Delf and Walter Goss. The body was laid to rest in the family lot in the local cemetery.
