Schmidt, 98, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, Nebraska. Mabel Antonia was born December 1, 1921, to Rudolph and Anna (Wolfe) Lipovsky at Fairfield, Nebraska. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1938. Mabel loved music. In her early years, she played guitar, banjo, and piano. She sang in church, school choirs and sang solos. On April 17, 1945, she married Edgar Schmidt in Blue Hill by Rev. August Ficken of Trinity Lutheran Church becoming a member on August 11, 1945. She was a homemaker. While raising her family she was active in parochial school activities, was also a Sunday School teacher, member of Adult Bible Class, Choir, and Ladies Aid for several years. In her later years, she loved china painting and playing bridge. Mabel loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were precious to her even when they outgrew her lap, they always fit her heart. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alyce Lipovsky and Helen Squires; brother, James Lipovsky; granddaughter, Brooke Schmidt; in-laws, Ione Lipovsky and Roy Squires, along with Edgar’s brothers, sisters, and spouses. Survivors include husband, Edgar Schmidt of Hastings; sons and spouses, Richard and Sandy Schmidt of Blue Hill, Dale and Beth Schmidt of Toledo, Ohio, and Keith and Kathy Schmidt of Ayr; grandchildren and spouses, Dick and Melanie Schmidt, Tom Schmidt, Brian and Kylee Schmidt, Betsy and Patrick Spieler, Lenny and Kate Schmidt, Adam Schmidt, Corey and Sara Schmidt, Josh and Jessica Schmidt, Shane and Katie Schmidt, James and Lila Phillips, Tara and Garry Goins, Corissa Lockling, Amanda Davis, and Megan Davis; great-grandchildren, Rick, Kyle, Katlynn, Kassidy, Peyton, Jared, Keiera, Kellen, Laura, Jonathan, Adrianna, Bianca, Carlisle, Adam Jr., Isaiah, Sammy, Connor, Jace, Erica, Shane, Alec, Anthony, Marisa, Tomas, Lexi, Eddie, Ethan, Alayna, Elsie, Max, Beckett, Cohen, Camdon, Creelyn, Dylan, Taylor, Brayden, Hailey, and Gavin.
