For many months she had been afflicted with that dreaded disease consumption. She was a real sufferer but she bore all her suffering with great Christian fortitude and resignation. Read More	OBITUARY Miss Mabel Vest, daughter of Mr. Calvin L. and Mrs. Katherine Vest, was born November 23, 1891, and died November 19, 1907, aged 15 years, 11 months, and 26 days. For many months she had been afflicted with that dreaded disease consumption. She was a real sufferer but she bore all her suffering with great Christian fortitude and resignation. She was calm and patient, ever hopeful almost to the end. She always looked on the bright side, met everybody with a smile and made them feel welcome around her bedside. She professed religion at Mt. Zion M.E. Church, during a revival meeting held by Bros. Gentry and Duvall about two years ago. She was soundly converted at the time and from the day she was converted she never ceased to love and put her trust in Jesus. She read her Bible day by day and put it under her pillow at night. She had many kind friends who did all they could for her during her sickness. Sometimes she would say, "I feel like I would like to get well and live with my friends for awhile," and then realizing her condition and feeling her weakness (sic), she would say, "I don't ask to live a moment, the beautiful things I see and the beautiful streams that flow on, oh! it is sweet to die and go and live with Jesus." Sometime before she died she asked those present to read the 23rd Psalm and asked her mother to repeat the Lord's Prayer, and then asked them to sing "Leaning on the Everlasting Arm" and "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown," and Jesus, filling her soul with love she says, "Dear Jesus take me, just take me as I am," and then calling up all those present she took them by the hand, one by one told them goodbye, and to meet her in Heaven, and then folding her hands across her breast and fixing her eyes Heavenward the angels kissed her spirit away and carried it to the sky where Jesus is, there to live with Jesus and all his loved ones forever. She was laid to rest in the cemetery near Mt. Zion Church, the burial services were conducted by Bro. G. T. Joran, her pastor. She leaves her father, mother, five sisters and five brothers, and a host of friends to mourn her loss. A precious one from us is gone, A voice we loved is still; A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled.
