Feb 26, 1962 - Carroll Daily Times - Funeral services for Mrs. J. Thomas Rogers, 76, Coon Rapids, widow of the late publisher of the Coon Rapids Enterprise, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Huffman Funeral Chapel here. The Rev. Mrs. Rogers died Saturday afternoon at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll of a heart attack. She had been brought by ambulance to the hospital about 10 a.m. that morning after suffering an earlier heart attack. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Dixon and her husband, Russell E. Dixon, Coon Rapids; Mrs. Priscilla Reinowski and her husband, Major Paul W. Reinowski, Bossier City, La.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. John J. (Esther) Rogers, Coon Rapids; seven grandchildren; and one brother, the Rev. Edward H. Shuey, Marshalltown. She was a sister-in-law of E.J. Rogers and Caroline Rogers, Carroll. Mrs. Rogers was the former Mabel Virginia Shuey, daughter of Jacob Augustus and Mary Annie Henderson. She was born Feb. 15, 1886, at Red Oak. She attended Simpson College, Indianola, majoring in pipe organ and piano at the music conservatory. Following her study there, she did much accompanying for artists throughout the midwest. Her marriage to J. Thomas Rogers took place Oct. 1, 1906, at Red Oak. They lived in New Mexico for seven years, then in the Beulah community southwest of Carroll until moving to Coon Rapids in 1930. Mr. Rogers was publisher and editor of the Coon Rapids Enterprise for about 30 years before his death March 18, 1960. She continued to make her home in Coon Rapids after his death. Mrs. Rogers was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Boston, Mass. At Coon Rapids she held membership in the P.E.O. Sisterhood, being a past president; the Embroider Club, Discussion Club, Daughters of the American Revolution; Home Culture Club (past president); and the Garden Department of the Coon Rapids Federated Club. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by one son, John J. Rogers, co-editor and publisher of the Coon Rapids Enterprise; one brother, John Shuey in California; and one sister, Mrs. M.E. Johnson, Corning.
