March 19, 1960 - Daily Carroll Times - John Thomas (Tom) Rogers, 77, publisher of the Coon Rapids Enterprise for the past 30 years, died unexpectedly at his home in Coon Rapids at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Huffman Memorial Chapel in Coon Rapids. Mr. Rogers was born on a farm in the Beulah District southwest of Carroll, November 3, 1882. His parents were the late John Tregloan and Lydia Osborne Rogers. Married in 1906 He attended Simpson College Indianola, where he was graduated in 1906. On October 1, 1906, he was married at Red Oak to Virginia Shuey. From 1906 until 1911, he was engaged in the insurance business at Red Oak and from 1911 to 1915 owned and operated a ranch at Wagon Mound, N. Mex. Returning to Carroll in 1915, he engaged in farming and cattle raising until he purchased the Enterprise in the spring of 1930. Mr. Rogers was a member of the Iowa Press Association and for 25 years was secretary of the Carroll County Republican Central Committee. On Monday of this week he had attended a board meeting of the United Savings and Loan Association in Carroll which he had previously served as president and was serving at the present time as vice president. He was a member of the Christian Science Church, the Blue Lodge of Coon Rapids, and the Council and Chapter of Carroll Masonic Lodges. Surviving are his wife; a son, John J. Rogers, who had been associated with his father at the Enterprise for the past several years two daughters, Mrs. Russell Dixon of Coon Rapids and Mrs. Paul Reinowski of Bossier City, La.; a brother Edward J. Rogers and sister Caroline Rogers of Carroll; and seven grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Robert O. Rogers. Mr. and Mrs. John J. Rogers and daughter, Ann, were in Corning at the time of Mr. Rogers death Friday night. They were expected to return to Coon Rapids, Saturday. Mrs. Reinowski and family also are expected this weekend from Louisiana.
