Description	:	Mae and her sister Sada B. Shepard were twins, born in Auburn Township, Fayette County, Iowa. As infants, they moved with their parents and sibblings to a homestead in Farmington Township, Lake County, Dakota Territory. After her sister Myrtle Shepard married former Gov. Andrew E. Lee and moved to Vermillion, SD, Mae and her husband Fritz Andersen also moved from Watertown, SD, to Vermillion. ANDERSON [sic] RITES FRIDAY Well-Known Vermillion Woman Succumbs Tuesday in Sioux City Hospital Mrs. Fritz R. Anderson [sic], 48 [sic; actually, 55], who had been critically ill in St. Vincent's hospital in Sioux City [Iowa] for more than a week following a major operation, passed away in the hospital late Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Anderson was critically ill when she was rushed to the Sioux City hospital last week to undergo an emergency operation. Her failing health was not sufficient to combat the complications that set in following the operation, and her death followed this week. For more than a decade [since about 1923] Mrs. Anderson has been a prominent club woman in Vermillion and in addition to her immediate family leaves a multitude of friends to mourn her early passing. Mrs. Anderson was born February 19, 1886 [sic; actually 1879], and was married to F. R. Anderson June 24, 1906. She was born in Lake County, South Dakota [sic; actually Aubrun Township, Fayette County, Iowa], and spent the earlier years of her life there before coming to Vermillion 11 years ago with her husband and only daughter, Burl. In Vermillion, Mrs. Anderson took an active part in the affairs of th Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as the Episcopal Church. She was a member of the guild of her church and was looked to with respect and admiration by all who knew her. Shortly after her mother was taken to the Sioux City hospital, Miss Burl Anderson was rushed to the same hospital to under an emergency operation for appendicitis and it was some time before she could be informed of the critical condition of her mother. Mrs. Anderson was always looked upon as a generous neighbor by her immediate friends and was extreme in her consideration of others. Her unselfishness and constant efforts to improve her own home had gained her the respect of the entire community. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Mrs. A. E. Lee [Mae's sister, Mrytle Shepard Lee, the widow of Gov. Andrew E. Lee] home under the direction of the Rev. Donald Henning. Interment will be in Bluff View Cemetery. In addition to her husband and daughter, Mrs. Anderson is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle F. Lee, of Vermillion; a twin sister, Miss Sada Shepard, of Watertown; Mrs. Eleanor Sweet, of Edmunds, Wash., and Mrs. Jessie Price, of Waldron, Saskatchewan, Canada. Frank Olds will care for funeral arrangements.
