Her first husband was Francis (Frank) Marion Dannells. They were married on May 20, 1885 in Helena, Lewis and Clark, Montana. Frank and Maude had two children * Theresa Lucinda Dannells (02-28-1886 to 07-14-1961) * Joseph F. Daniels (12-13-1889 to 04-22-1964) History is vague of what happened between 1889 & 1894. It is unknown if Frank abandoned the family or if he died. No record has yet been found as to his fate as of this updated post (06/10/2021). It is possible that because of whatever happened during this time that his son later used a modified spelling of his last name from birth. (Additional Info) There is new evidence Frank may had a first marriage in Indiana years before that may have produced a son. There is no paper trail to support that but recent DNA evidence is strongly suggesting it is true. It leaves open the question of whether Frank went back to Indiana, abandoning his family in Montana? According to Maude's great-grandson and some pictures in possession of family members the two children were shipped back to Minnesota to be cared for by their their grandmother Angeline, reportedly when the oldest, Theresa, was about 3 years old (approximately 1889). Both children reportedly came back to stay with their mother and her new husband and half sister when Theresa was about 13. Maude's second marriage was to Walter W. Williams (1872–1940). Exact date of marriage unknown but must have been before July 1894 since June 1900 census shows them married 6 years.
