Description	:	Joseph's nickname was "DoDo" Joseph F. Dannells was born December 13, 1888 when his father, Francis (Frank), was 31 and his mother, Magdalena, was 25. History is vague of what happened between 1889 & 1894. It is unknown if Frank abandoned the family or if he died. No record has yet been found as to his fate as of this updated post (06/10/2021). It is possible that because of whatever happened during this time that his son later used a modified spelling of his last name from birth. (Additional Info) There is new evidence Frank may had a first marriage in Indiana years before that may have produced a son. There is no paper trail to support that but recent DNA evidence is strongly suggesting it is true. It leaves open the question of whether Frank went back to Indiana, abandoning his family in Montana? According to Maude's great-grandson and some pictures in possession of family members the two children were shipped back to Minnesota to be cared for by their their grandmother Angeline, reportedly when the oldest, Theresa, was about 3 years old (approximately 1888-1889). Both children reportedly came back to stay with their mother and her new husband and half sister when Theresa was about 13. He married Ethel Or Edith Printz on March 27, 1916, in Great Falls, Montana. Joseph shows up as still married in the Jan 1920 census although he is shown as living in Los Angeles, California with his half-sister and her family at the time. His wife shows up in the Jan 1920 census as living in Black Eagle, Montana with her in-law's family as Divorced. It's likely divorce proceeding we in progress, if not finalized about that time. In 1940 census he is listed as a patient at a VA facility in Wyoming.
