Description	:	Mahala Emily Elwood was born at Prairie City, Iowa June 25, 1859. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.E. Stokes, southwest of Creighton, February 27, 1919, aged 59 years, 8 months and 2 days. She was married to George W. Alton in the year 1879. To this union six children were born; Delmar, who died in infancy, Gertrude Beckley of Blake, Neb., Corborn of Gracie, Neb., Myrtle Stokes of Creighton, Guy of Josie, Neb. and Oakley of Orchard, Neb. She with her husband moved to Creighton in 1884, where they lived until 1886, when they moved to Custer Co.,... Read More	Mahala Emily Elwood was born at Prairie City, Iowa June 25, 1859. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.E. Stokes, southwest of Creighton, February 27, 1919, aged 59 years, 8 months and 2 days. She was married to George W. Alton in the year 1879. To this union six children were born; Delmar, who died in infancy, Gertrude Beckley of Blake, Neb., Corborn of Gracie, Neb., Myrtle Stokes of Creighton, Guy of Josie, Neb. and Oakley of Orchard, Neb. She with her husband moved to Creighton in 1884, where they lived until 1886, when they moved to Custer Co., Nebraska, where they lived for eight years, returning again to Antelope county, where she lived until the time of her death. Early in life she united with the Christian church, later the Methodist church at Creighton. Her husband, G.W. Alton preceded her to the final home in the year 1906. Her last illness was very brief and she left a most assuring message of her readiness to enter triumphantly into the intimate fellowship with her Savior in the better world beyond the river death. She leaves to mourn their loss children, all of whom were present at the funeral; three brothers, H.C. Elwood of Creighton, Dr. F. Elwood of Greeley, Colo., Nate Elwood of Creighton, one sister, Mrs. Skeen of Riverside, Calif, 8 grandchildren and a large circle of friends. Funeral services were held a the Methodist church at Creighton, Sunday at 2 p.m., conducted by her pastor, Rev. T.E. Smith. Interment was made in the Creighton cemetery.
