She had been in failing health the last few years. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Methodist church with the Rev. David T. Gustafson, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Vogt, Marvin Elwood, Lyman Elwood, Gifford McManigal, Victor Ebel and Raymond Johnson. Ivy Myrtle Alton was born Nov. 3, 1884 to George and Emily Elwood Alton on a farm southeast of Creighton. With the exception of four years of her childhood in Custer County, she spent her entire life in the Creighton community. She attended high school here and college at Wayne and Peru. She attended one year at Gates Academy in Neligh. For 12 years she taught in rural schools in Antelope and Pierce counties and in the public schools of Neligh and Brunswick. On April 14, 1914, she was married to Ray Stokes at the home of her parents southwest of Creighton. Eight children were born to them, seven of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Stokes farmed south and west of Creighton until 1954 when they retired and moved into Creighton. Mrs. Stokes was an active member of the Methodist Church and WSCS for many years. She attended services regularly until her health failed a few months ago. Surviving are three sons, Leland E. and Earl W. of Creighton and Dale M. of Alexandria, Ky.; four daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Laurine) Bartling and Mrs. Donald (Lois) Johnson of Creighton, Mrs. Don (Marjorie) Way of Ogden, Utah and Mrs. Joe (Ruth) Klippel of Napa, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and one brother, Guy Alton of Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1957; an infant son, Gordon in 1929, a sister and two brothers.
