Description	:	The son of Elias & Ruth (Stevenson) Troxell, he married Barbara S. Funk November 22, 1851, in Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and fathered Elwood H. (b. @1852, d. 01/09/53), Asbury Hartman (b. 01/19/56), and Ella D. (b. 11/??/58). In 1860, he was a machinist living with his family in Waynesboro. Barbara died in 1861. A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Chambersburg October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service there November 4 as a private with Co. E, 158th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), but quickly promoted to captain, a position he held until November 21 when he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. He honorably discharged with the regiment August 12, 1863. He is listed in the company register as "Elias S. Fox" but correctly spelled in the muster roll. He also enlisted in Chambersburg March 1, 1864, mustered into federal service there March 6 at an unknown rank with the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry (185th Pa) and soon promoted to major. On June 24, 1865, as part of a war-end consolidation, he transferred to the 3rd Pennsylvania Provisional Cavalry and honorably discharged with the regiment October 31, 1865, at Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland. By 1870, he was a clerk living without his children in a hotel in Martinsburg, West Virginia, where sometime later he married Margaret J. Bosserman, although they apparently had no children. Ten years later, his daughter Ella then living with him, he had become a lawyer and was still an active member of the bar at the time of his death.
