Description	:	SICKLES, MAMIE—Mamie Sloan Sickles was born at Monticello, Ia., December 30, 1864. She died at Athelstan, Taylor County, Ia., April 30, 1934, aged 69 years and 4 months. Her parents were James W. and Elizabeth Magee Sloan, both of whom at early ages migrated from the north of Ireland to Philadelphia, where they were married in 1857. Mrs. Sickles was educated in the country schools, and later in the high school in Monticello. Her parents were James W. and Elizabeth Magee Sloan, both of whom at early ages migrated from the north of Ireland to Philadelphia, where they were married in 1857. Mrs. Sickles was educated in the country schools, and later in the high school in Monticello. She is survived by her husband, Elmer Sickles, a son, Frank Sloan Sickles, two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Stroburg and Mrs. Dewey Fidler, and nine grandchildren, all of the Athelstan vicinity; also three brothers, William J. Sloan and Charles H. Sloan of Geneva and Robert J. Sloan of Kansas City, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. Sickles met soon after the Sloan family in 1883 came from Monticello to their new home, “Big Springs Farm.” After their marriage February 24, 1889, they settled on the ancestral farm of the Sickles, where by industry and thrift, they built up a reasonable competence. Later through the appreciative generosity of a now deceased brother, Frank W. Sloan, she became the owner of a large land estate and other property in Fillmore County, Nebraska. The body was transported over land from Bedford, Ia., and deposited in Crypt No. 8 in the Sloan mausoleum, in the Geneva Cemetery, Thursday, May 3. Brief services were conducted by Rev. W. H. Shoaf of the Methodist church and songs were rendered. Pallbearers were Conrad Hofferber, Henry Aden, Herman Volkmer, Barthold Hofferber, tenants of deceased, Earl H. Wilkins and Thomas J. Keenan.
