Wood of this city Sunday, afternoon September 20th, she never regained consciousness from that stroke and died at 10:20 o'clock last Saturday forenoon, September, 26, The funeral was held at the residence Monday afternoon, at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Phillips, pastor of the Christian church at Ansley, was called to give the funeral address, as Rev Smith, pastor of the church here, was in Iowa at the time. The sermon was a very comforting one and in a class with the very best funeral sermon we have ever heard. The singing was by a mixed quartette and the songs used were "Under His Wings", ".Some time We'll Understand," "God Will Take Care of You", and "Asleep in Jesus," all being used by request. The pall bearers were Alfred Amos, Lycurgus Amos, Jack Amos, Plin Metcalf, Joe Young and A. C. Davis. The casket was covered and banked with very beautiful flowers. Although the house is commodious, there were so many people at the funeral, that nearly as many remained on the outside as were within., In addition to all of her children being present at the funeral, Mrs. Wood's two brothers were present. They are the Hon. W. H. Thompson, one of the judges of the Nebraska State Supreme Court, and a resident of Lincoln, Nebr., and I. Ross Thompson of Des Moines, Iowa. All the children reside in Sargent with the exception of Mrs. Zella Scott, whose home is at Waterloo, Iowa, She and her small daughter, Shirley, arrived here Tuesday evening of last week, coming when she received the news of her mother's illness. Interment was made in the Sargent cemetery beside her husband who passed away in November, 1916. Obituary The following is the obituary as brought to this office. Manerva A. Thompson was born in the village of Perrysville, Carroll county, Ohio, July 5th, 1848, the daughter of Eli and Eliza Thompson, she being one of a family of ten children. In 1864 the family moved to what is now Arlington, Fayette county, Iowa, at which place she united with the church of her parents, the Christian church, and there was married to Lemuel L. Wood, who at the time had two children, Eli Mertin and Ellen Margaret Wood. To this union there were born five children, Amos Latimer, Zella Manerva, Luetta Allona, William Henry and Lemuel Ross. Amos Latimer and Lemuel Ross preceded her in death, as did also her husband. Early in the 80's they moved to Nebraska and settled at Grand Island, lived there for one year, then moved to Custer county, Nebraska, where they took up a homestead in what is known as Dry Valley. They improved and proved up on the same then moved to Sargent in such county, where she resided at the time of her death. On arriving at Dry Valley she and her esteemed husband united with the Christian church and aided materially in building and sustaining the church of Christ there, and coming to Sargent united with that church here. She passed on the 26th day of September, 1925, from the effects of a stroke of paralysis, which she received Sunday, September 20th, after which stroke she never regained consciousness. She left surviving her two brothers, William H. Thompson of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Isaac Ross Thompson of Des Moines, Iowa and children as heretofore stated, and numerous grandchildren. She was a loving sister, a devoted mother cherished grandmother, and kindly neighbor. May her Christian life serve as an inspiration to others
