Read More	Dayton Review September 29, 1949 OBITUARY Manney Joakin Bergquist Feb. 4, 1868 - Sept. 20, 1949 Manney Joakin Bergquist was born February 4, 1868 in Vaksjo, Kronobergs län, Småland, Sweden. He came to this country at the age of 21 years, making his first home with his uncle, Mr. C.A. Bygel of Pilot Mound. In 1890 he worked in Des Moines, and there he was united in marriage in 1898 to Miss Ann Nelson. He was gifted with the splendid tenor voice and joined the Nordic Singers Male Chorus. He and his wife moved to Kewanee, Illinois. Here he accepted Christ as his Saviour and his song took on still greater meaning and joy. In 1906 he and his family returned to Dayton community, where they were engaged in farming until his retirement 7 years ago. He and his daughter, Miss Mabel Bergquist moved to Boxholm where they lived until his recent illness. In June of this year he was taken to Iowa City University Hospital and returned 9 days later. His health continued to fail and on September 3rd he was taken to Mercy Hospital, Fort Dodge, where he remained until his entering into rest September 20 at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 16 days. Mr. Bergquist leaves four daughters, Mabel Bergquist, Mrs. Helen Berg, Mrs. Dorothy Flickinger, Mrs. Margaret Klinger, one foster daughter, Mrs. Agnes Lester, and one son Reuben. HIs wife predeceased him ten years ago on the 25th of this month, and a brother Joseph at a later date. Besides his immediate family he leaves a niece Edith Norgren, and two cousins, Selma and Alfred Bygel, seven grandchildren, as well as other relatives and a large number of friends. Mr. Bergquist was a charter member of the Dayton Covenant Church. He was treasurer of the church for 25 years and worked diligently for the good of the congregation and the Lord he had learned to love. One of his great joys in recent years had been to see his family take an active part in the work of the Lord in the church. Besides flowers and memorial wreaths which we see there are a number of gifts of money for a memorial fund in his honor. May the peace of God be upon the memory of our departed brother.
