Suffering what seemed to be a fainting spell, Mr. Kohl grew weaker until his death Saturday morning. Manuel Kohl, a son of the late Rev. Solomon and Elizabeth Kohl, was born Sept. 10, 1857, at Lisbon, Iowa. Here he spent his boyhood and young manhood days, and on Oct. 11, 1883, was united in marriage to Miss Alice Tyson. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Kohl made their home in Lisbon until 1891, when they came to Cass county, locating on a farm one mile west of Anita. In 1897, they retired from farming and moved into town, and since then have made Anita their home. Mr. Kohl's death will be mourned by his devoted wife and one son, Albert Ross Kohl, a granddaughter, Miss Marilynn Kohl of Anita, and three brothers Fred, John and Samuel Kohl, all of Lisbon. One brother preceded him in death. Mr. Kohl was almost fifty years spent in Anita, could be easily classed as a pioneer of the community, and during that period of time, he was a worker for the betterment of the community in which he made his home. He was an exemplary husband, a kind and loving father, and home to him was a place of peace, happiness and contentment. He carried into his every day life a regard for the cleaner things of existance, and while he never affiliated with any church organizations, he believed in the teachings of Jesus Christ, and before failing health overtook him, was a regular attendant at church services. He was mindful of his obligations as a citizen and an individual in his relations with those with whom he came in contact. The writer knew Mr. Kohl from the time we were a small boy and we always knew him as one whose industry was tireless and contributed his full share to the upbuilding and development of things about him. They are passing might fast, those of the older generation who are still left. In the hurly-burly of things today their works are often forgotten and the part they have played in the development of things are sometimes overlooked by a careless younger generation. But their lasting monument exists in the contribution they made to this development, in the faith they exhibited in this section and the vision they had of the possibilities it contained for those who cast their lot here. The passing of Mr. Kohl is the passing of one who believed in the industry and thrift and exercised those and the other old-fashioned virtues of life. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Church of Christ, and were in charge of Rev. D. B. S. Prather, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church.
