H. SHELTON Marcia I. Shelton, wife of D. H. Shelton, was born near Hamilton, Kansas, Jan 28, 1872. Her parents were J. H. and Jane Rains. Mrs. Shelton was the last of a family of eight children, three of whom died in infancy, the rest, two sisters, Mrs. Rose McCarty and Mrs. Minnie Reeme, two brothers, Sedley Rains and Harry Rains, all having preceded her in death. Mrs. Shelton was converted and joined the Christian Church at Hamlin, Kansas in her 16th year, and was always an active worker in the music department of the church. She was a member of the Rosecrans Relief Corps No. 82 of Whittier and also had been a member of the Rebekahs but had let her membership expire in that order. She was united in marriage to D. H. Shelton Sept. 26, 1889. Four children were born to this union: Agnes Louise and Anna Irene, both having died in infancy; Blanche Estelle Lowhead and Ernest Harold Shelton, who are both living in Whittier. The deceased passed away Monday evening, December 17, at her home. She leaves her husband, D. H. Shelton, Daughter, Blanche E. Lowhead and son, Ernest Harold Shelton, and his little daughter, Phyllis Jean, who was a constant companion to her grandmother. HAMLIN NEWS GLEANER Saturday August 31, 1889 Mr. H.D. Shelton and Miss Marcia Rains were united in the holy bonds of wedlock by Rev. C.S. Freark, of Morrill, on Thursday evening, Sept. 26, 1889, at the residence of the bride's parents in Hamlin, KS. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. D. Shelton & son, Ernest, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. D. L. McCarty, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Reeme, Miss Agnes Stapleton and Mr. P. Banker.
