Mardel was born in Colon, Nebraska on November 16, 1936, the youngest of nine children, born to Albert and Florence (Martens) Knutzen. Mardel was born in Colon, Nebraska on November 16, 1936, the youngest of nine children, born to Albert and Florence (Martens) Knutzen. Mardel was baptized on December, 20, 1936, and confirmed on June 18, 1950, at the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska. She received her education from the Cedar Bluffs school in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska and graduated with the class of 1954. On December 22, 1954, Mardel was united in marriage to Daryl Clyde Striggow in Council Bluffs, Iowa and to this union four children were born: Sherry, Randy, Vicki, and Lori. The couple made their home in Alma. Mardel made her career as a bookkeeper for 45 years, working mostly for car dealerships. Mardel was a wonderful cook and enjoyed bowling and playing volleyball. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mardel will be remembered for her kindness Besides her husband and parents, Mardel was preceded in death by, one sister, Darlene Steinhauser and her husband, Norbert; six brothers: Leonard Knutzen and his wife, Doreen; Gene Knutzen and his wife, Enid; Kenneth Knutzen and his wife, Vickie; Vernon Knutzen and his wife, Georgia Ann; Merlin Knutzen; and Harold Knutzen at the age of three. Mardel is survived by, four children: Sherry Triptow and her husband, Tom of Fort Myers, Florida; Randy Striggow and his wife, Sharon of Auburn, Nebraska; Vicki Keeler and her husband, Ken of Panama City, Florida; Lori Wheeler and her husband, Jeff of Holdrege; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Kathlene Hopkins and her husband, Stanley of Seattle, Washington; along with a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
