He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Guy and Milan Emmert; half-brothers, Jess, Lester and George; half-sisters, Nellie, Ollie and Odessa. He is survived by his wife, Helen; brothers, Kenneth and wife, Ayvril, Pearl and wife, Mae; a sister, Mrs. Faye Dorsey, and many nieces and nephews. Mardis grew to manhood on a farm near Cambria and attended the Cambria school graduating from Cambria High School in 1925. On Oct. 23, 1929, he married Helen Winslow of Derby, Iowa, where the couple lived until 1938 while Mardis worked in the George Winslow store. In 1938 Mardis and Helen moved to Corydon where Mardis had a small grocery store. In 1943, he answered the call to serve his country. While in the Army he was stationed at Fort Warren, White Horse, and at Fort Leavenworth. Funeral services were held at the Wolf Funeral Home on April 26, 1983, at 1:30 p.m. and were conducted by the Rev. Gale Hawhee with interment in the Cambria Cemetery.
