She had been in failing health for the last eight months and bedfast for the past 6 weeks. Funeral services are to be Friday morning at Holy Angels Church, Roselle with the Rev. Father Louis B. Anthofer reading the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery... Mrs Meier spent virtually all of her life I the Roselle community. She was born Margaret Anna Steffes, Nov 18 1873 at St Lucas, IA, a daughter of Mr and Mrs Math Steffes. When she was 5 the family came to Carroll county to make their home on a farm north of Roselle. At the age of 18 she became the bride of Bernard Engelen the ceremony taking place at Holy Angels Church. They were the parents of 4 children, three of whom are living: John Engelen of Glidden; Anna at Roselle; and Henry at Westside. Another son Matt Engelen died at the age of 7. Mr Engelen passed away about 43 years ago. June 29, 1904 she married Fred 'Meier. To them were born five children, all of whom are living: Mrs. Ben Bluml (Mary), Lidderdale; Mrs. Joe Testroet (Sophia), Halbur; Joseph Meier, Manning: Edward Meier, Roselle, and Louis Meier, Clearwater, Kan. Additional to her husband and the eight children above named, Mrs. Meier leaves twenty-seven (grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: John Steffes Olpe, Kan.: Mrs. Barney Starman, Elgin, Neb.; Mrs. Ned Riter, Sterling, Colo.; Herman Steffes Longmont, Colo.; Mrs. Henry Tappe, Witten, S.D.; Sister M. Bernardilia, Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Joe Arndt, Mrs. Bernard Markowitz, Mrs. Ted Kuhlman and William Steffes, all of Olpe. Kan. Her parents, five sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Meier had lived on the same farm northeast of Roselle from the time of her first marriage until four years ago, when she moved into the present home in Roselle. A member of Holy Angels Church, she died well fortified with the last rites of the church.
