Margaretha Augusta Bachman was born September 21, 1870, in Saxon, Berlin, Germany, the daughter of Johann and Eva (Geissler) Bachman. She came to the United States with her nephew, William Bachman, in 1894. She married George D. Werling on July 24, 1902. Together they farmed three and one-half miles south of Tipton. Mr. Werling preceded her in death March 5, 1918. She remained on the farm until 1936, when she moved to Tipton. She was a life member of the United Lutheran Church Women and departed this life as she lived it, firm in the faith of God. In her home she was a devoted mother. Many of her friends called her Aunt Maggie. No task was too hard and she was always ready and willing to serve others. There remain to mourn her passing are one son, Ernest (Mildred) Werling of Tipton; three daughters, Eva (Oscar) Chapman of Tipton, Bertha (Joseph) Knott of Newton, and Mildred (Ernest) Cormier of West Covina, California; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two step-sons, three brothers and two sisters. Her two brothers, William and Frederick Bachman and one sister, Christina Bachman, also came to Cedar County, Iowa. Information received on November 25, 2018, from Shary Mullins Simpson: Margaret's parents were Johann Valentine Bachman, born April 1, 1828, died January 25, 1889. Eva Maria Geissler, born May 26, 1826, died April 26, 1888. Besides her brother, William Bachman, she had a brother, Kaspar Bachman, born May 21, 1857, died April 11, 1938
