Woman Dies In Slate Quarry Body of Mrs. Darby Found Near Ijamsville Missing for approximately 24 hours from Riggs Cottage Sanitarium, Ijamsville, where she had been a patient for about eighteen months, the dead body of Mrs. Margaret Darby, 71, Dawsonville, Montgomery county, was found Sunday evening about seven o'clock floating on the surface of the water in a nearby slate quarry. Death was officially deemed accidental. Mrs. Darby, who became a patient of the sanitarium in January of last year, was found missing from the grounds shortly after the evening meal of Saturday. Search by attaches failed to disclose her whereabouts and State Police at Barracks B were notified and they immediately broadcast a "lookout." Sunday evening several employees of the sanitarium continuing the erstwhile search went to the quarry and saw the dead body of the missing woman floating on the surface. Dr. Hosea W. McAdoo, the superintendent, was notified and word was immediately transmitted to the authorities here. Sheriff Horace M. Alexander and Corporal Elwood O'Hara and Trooper Brandon Duvall went to the scene. In the meantime, the body was retrieved with the use of a boat by Charles Belt, a resident of the vicinity. In the absence of the Medical Examiner or his deputies, the Sheriff summoned Dr. E. P. Thomas to hold an inquest. His decision was that death was accidental. A fracture about the face indicated that the woman sustained the injury in the fall from the quarry ledge to the surface of the water, estimated to be 25 to 30 feet below. Indications were that death soon followed the fall. There was no autopsy. Prior to her admission to the sanitarium, Mrs. Darby made her home with a cousin, Thomas C. Darby, at Dawsonville. She was the widow of Milton G. Darby and a daughter of the late Nathan and Margaret Allnutt, of Dawsonville. Born on March 25, 1873, she was the last of her immediate family. The body was removed Sunday evening to the funeral establishment at Barnesville and the funeral will take place from the home of Mr. Darby at Dawsonville on Tuesday morning at eleven o'clock.
