Born April 10, 1915, in Staten Island, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Elizabeth Laing Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, W.W. Downey Thompson, in 1981. She was employed by the Berkeley County Health Department. She attended First Presbyterian and Tuscarora Presbyterian churches. Born April 10, 1915, in Staten Island, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Elizabeth Laing Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, W.W. Downey Thompson, in 1981. She was employed by the Berkeley County Health Department. She attended First Presbyterian and Tuscarora Presbyterian churches. She served as church secretary, Sunday school and Bible School teacher, and financial secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Martinsburg, W.Va. She volunteered at the Berkeley County Health Department's regional heart clinic, the local Red Cross and Meals-on-Wheels. She is survived by two sons, Charles R. Thompson of Fairfax, Va., and William D. Thompson of Newark, Del.; three grandchildren, Mary E. McMullen of St. Charles, Mo., Katherine L. Garstang of Charlottesville, Va., and Gretchen M. Sandidge of Knoxville, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren; one cousin; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by one sister, Fredericka Marshall. Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Rufus T. Burton will officiate. Burial will be in Old Norborne Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 220 S.
