Description	:	Mrs. Margaret (Ingersoll) Gilbert, of Pittsford, Vt., was born in Rupert, Aug. 12th, 1798, and died December 5th, 1878, in her eighty-first year. She was the sister of Rev. John Ingersoll, pastor of the Congregational church in Pittsford, from December 18th, 1823, to September 1826, and father of Colonel Robert G. Ingersoll, of Peoria, III. She came to Pittsford as a teacher during her brother's pastorate, and became the wife of Simeon Gilbert, September 15th, 1825. Read More	Mrs. Margaret (Ingersoll) Gilbert, of Pittsford, Vt., was born in Rupert, Aug. 12th, 1798, and died December 5th, 1878, in her eighty-first year. She was the sister of Rev. John Ingersoll, pastor of the Congregational church in Pittsford, from December 18th, 1823, to September 1826, and father of Colonel Robert G. Ingersoll, of Peoria, III. She came to Pittsford as a teacher during her brother's pastorate, and became the wife of Simeon Gilbert, September 15th, 1825. This union, which continued more than fifty-three years, was a singularly happy and complete one. Pittsford was the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert all their married life except about thirteen years spent in Granville, NY., on account of superior educational advantage. Except for that period, Mr. Gilbert has been deacon of the Pittsford church for twenty-five years past, and Mrs. Gilbert has been a Bible-class teacher in Pittsford and Granville for more than sixty years. There were ten children, seven sons and three daughters. All the sons were graduated at Burlington, and the two daughters who grew up were also thoroughly educated. Three of the sons became ministers -- James B., now in Iowa, Nathaniel P., for many years a missionary in Chili, who died July 1, 1876, and Simeon, now editor of the Chicago Advance. Two others became lawyers, and one of them John F. Gilbert, of Malone, has distinguished himself in the New York Assembly.
