Margaret Kay (Smith) Saathoff was born March 11, 1940 on a farm north of Kensington, Kansas and passed away at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. She was the seventh of eight children born to Amasa E. and Pearl T. (Baumann) Smith. Margaret was raised in Kensington, Kansas, and attended the Kensington Public Schools. Margaret Kay (Smith) Saathoff was born March 11, 1940 on a farm north of Kensington, Kansas and passed away at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. She was the seventh of eight children born to Amasa E. and Pearl T. (Baumann) Smith. Margaret was raised in Kensington, Kansas, and attended the Kensington Public Schools. On December 27, 1959 she was united in marriage to Gerald D. Saathoff at the Methodist Church in Kensington, Kansas. They began their married life together in Franklin, Nebraska, and resided there until her death. To this union two sons were born, Jody J and Daren D. She became a member and was baptized in the United Church of Christ of Franklin, Nebraska. She was active in her church as Sunday School teacher, choir member, youth leader and wherever the need. As Margaret's faith in Jesus as her personal savior grew it was her desire to share this good news. This desire gave birth to a Tuesday afternoon Bible study and Sunday evening couples study in their home. Because of her enthusiasm in sharing the love of her Savior she touched lives of all ages. She was preceded in death by her father, two sisters, Thelma and Delorse and one brother, Henry. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Gerald D., two sons, Jody, wife Mary and soon expected grandchild and Daren all of Franklin, Nebraska; her mother, Pearl Smith of Kensington, Kansas; three sisters, Lucille, husband Buck Cromwell, Carlton, Kansas; Evelyn, husband Donald Smith, Loveland, Colorado; Carolyn, husband Jerry Underwood, Bennington, Kansas; one brother, A.E. wife Sharie Smith of Smith Center, Kansas; brother-in-law, Rodney Rorabaugh of Kansas City, Kansas; sister-in-law, Sharon Smith of Franklin; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 30 at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, Franklin, Nebraska with Reverends Leo Sillig and Carlyle Wise officiating. Music was provided by Van Bradley, Leonard Burgess and Hilda Mucklow. Casket bearers were Jim Cromwell, Kent Smith, Allen Smith, David Rorabaugh, Rick Underwood, Adam Smith.
