Adam and Margaret were married 04 Jan 1939 in Perkins County, South Dakota Margaret Fritz Obit MARGARET MARY SCHMALTZ FRITZ July 8, 1911 ~ May 25, 2012 Margaret Mary Schmaltz Fritz joined the Communion of Saints on May 25, 2012, six weeks short of her 101st birthday. She was born July 8, 1911, in a sod house on the South Dakota prairie to Ludwig and Elizabeth Sander Schmaltz. Margaret graduated from Bison High School in 1929, attended Aberdeen Normal School for Teachers, then taught for seven years in rural one-room schoolhouses in the area, all in South Dakota. In 1939, she married Adam Fritz: they lived in Bison where Barbara and Ron were born. In 1943, WWII drew them to Vancouver, Washington where Adam worked in the Kaiser Shipyards. Elizabeth joined the family shortly before they moved to a small farm near Orchards, Washington. Adam worked for Crown Zee in Camas, Washington and Margaret worked for Del Monte Cannery in Vancouver, Washington for 25 years. Family, farm work, gardening, Washington Grange #82 and church activities at St. John's Catholic Church filled the years until they moved to Vancouver, Washington in 1994 where Adam died four years later. Margaret continued on her own to attend daily Mass, garden, bake and provide goodies and produce for her family until 2009 when she moved to Cascade Inn in Vancouver, Washignton. There she was attended to with loving, compassionate care by the staff and hospice until she passed away quietly and peacefully. She is survived by her children, Barbara (Gary) Wills and Elizabeth Nettleton, both of Vancouver, Washington; Ron Fritz, Chicago, Illinois; her brother, Michael Schmaltz; as well as seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vancouver, Washington on Saturday, June 2, 2012, preceded by a Rosary.
