Siblings and their spouses: Tony and Lela Schmaltz, Joe Schmaltz (his life was claimed in a farming accident), Maggie and Fritz Nelson, Mary and Mike Fisher, Margaret and Adam Fritz, Barbara and Bill Wyde, Elizabeth and Pete Zacher, and Sister Mary Hilda Schmaltz. He passed from this life to eternal life at the Hospice House in Rapid City at the age of 95. Schooling: grade school at Brushy Rural School and graduated from Bison High School in 1939. Work history: Civilian Conservation Corp, taking part in the construction of Orman Dam, farmed and ranched with his brothers, which he did until the age of 90. Retiring unwillingly to Rapid City. He entered the Victorian Assisted Living in 2014. His home was with his brother Tony and wife Lela, and with his niece, nephew, and their families. Military: Army on October 22, 1941. Headquartered in the India-Burma Theater during World War II. Honorably discharged on January 25, 1946, at the rank of Sergeant. Hobbies and activities: reading, gardening, playing cards, dancing, working in the fields and with the cattle, and his Catholic faith was very important to him. Memberships: Drew Parish, Blessed Sacrament in Bison, and attended St. Therese in Rapid City. Survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Bison from 11 am – 1 pm. Rosary service will be at 1 pm and Mass of Christian burial will take place at 2 pm. Committal will be in the Bison Cemetery. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends.
