Born in Clinton, she was the wife of William Lloyd Smith for over 68 years and was the daughter of the late Olan Vernon Thompson and Evelyn Wren Thompson. Mrs. Smith retired from Cherokee Finishing and Oxford Industries and was a lifelong member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church where she served as secretary of the Children's Sunday School Department for over 60 years. Born in Clinton, she was the wife of William Lloyd Smith for over 68 years and was the daughter of the late Olan Vernon Thompson and Evelyn Wren Thompson. Mrs. Smith retired from Cherokee Finishing and Oxford Industries and was a lifelong member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church where she served as secretary of the Children's Sunday School Department for over 60 years. Margaret was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was an avid shopper and gift giver. Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, William L. Smith, II and wife, Debbie, of Columbia; two daughters, Lynn Smith Clary of Gaffney and Marki Smith Clarke of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Olan Thompson and wife, Brenda, of Lexington; a sister, Carolyn Moss of Gaffney; six grandchildren, Suzy George and husband, David, Mandy Hoyle and husband, Justin, Ansley Smith, Will Smith, Legare Jones and Sarah Jones; four great-grandchildren, Jamie George, Phillip George, Ellis George and Liam Hoyle; special friend and caregiver, Jane Crawford; lifelong best friend, Amelia Cooper. She was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Thompson, a sister, Hazel Davis, and a son-in-law, Eddie Clary. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 PM on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Clyde Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
