Born Sept.30,1887, at Bement, Ill., daughter of the Rev. George and Martha Foreman Carter, she came with her family from Illinois to Osceola. She was reared and educated in that community graduating from the Osceola High School and later attended the Palmer College at LeGrand. On Sept. 30, 1908 she was married to Mr. Herbert who died March 11, 1963. They lived on a ranch at Roswell, N.M. from 1913 to 1921 when they moved to Marshalltown, where they lived until moving to Tama in 1961, where their daughter, Mrs. Arlo Harris, resided. Included among survivors besides Mrs. Harris are a son, M/Sgt. Joe M. Herbert, serving in Korea, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. A member of the Methodist Church in Tama. she was also a member of Rebekah Lodge No. 40 and Rebekah Excelsior Aid, Marshalltown.
