Description	:	Rita J. Harris passed away Saturday, April 29, 2006 at the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit at North Colorado Medical Center at the age of 87. She had moved into the Hospice unit on Friday the 28th from her home at Alterra Sterling House. Mrs. Harris was born October 24, 1918 to Margaurite Emma (Carter) and Paul Morton Herbert at Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mrs. Harris was born October 24, 1918 to Margaurite Emma (Carter) and Paul Morton Herbert at Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa. She spent her very early childhood in Roswell, NM and then moved back to Marshalltown, Iowa. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1936. In December of 1936, she married Arlo C. Harris and they worked and farmed in Marshall County, Iowa. From 1944 to 1973, they farmed in rural Tama County, Iowa. From 1973-1981 they lived in Tama, Iowa. In 1981 they moved to Greeley, Colorado to be closer to their children. In October of 2004, Arlo and Rita moved from their home to Alterra Sterling House of Greeley, an assisted living facility. Arlo passed away on February 26, 2005. Rita considered family, friends and her faith the most important things in her life. She was a wonderful and caring mother, a doting and supportive grandmother and a particularly adoring great-grandmother who loved hanging the latest photos of them on her walls or passing them around for all her friends to see. She was a loyal and true friend to many and will be sadly missed. A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rita was active in their Esther Circle and the Sewing Circle, where she shared her artistry, skills and passion for quilting. Over the years, Rita had made dozens of quilts for her family and friends, as well as helped with hundreds of quilts for donation to overseas Lutheran missions. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Mike Drexel of Nelson, Nebraska, a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and JoEllen Harris of Greeley, Colorado; six grandchildren, Nichole Yount and husband Allen of Yuma, Colorado, Brad Harris and wife Tiffani of Westminster, Colorado, Leah Townsend and husband Cory of Grand Island, Nebraska, Amy Carroll and husband Jerod of Thornton, Colorado, Katie Robinson of Thornton, Colorado and Geoff Harris and fiancee Loni Griffin of Greeley, Colorado. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Philip Hauck of Yuma, Colorado, Kasey and Kamden Townsend of Grand Island, Nebraska and Rachel Laine Harris of Westminster, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlo C. Harris,her parents, Margaurite Emma & Paul Morton Herbert, a brother, Joe Morton Herbert and a great-grandson, Kalen Jon Townsend. Services 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Greeley,CO. Visitation 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 28th St. Greeley. Contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1865 14th Ave., Greeley, CO 80631, to be used for the Quilting Fund.
